My first-born is turning four this week. Cue the waterworks… I really can’t believe that he is going to be four years old! I could cry a river all day long. Instead I’m throwing him a birthday party! A LEGO themed party, at our house, to celebrate! Commence, operation Birthday Party Planning.
I stressed over where to have the party and after weeks of debate and not finding anything just right, we settled on our house and we picked Lego’s because he is… Obsessed. Once we decided we were having the party at the house my mind started swimming with to-dos to prepare the house and the party. I started writing everything out list-style and quickly became frustrated. Which items are a priority, what days do tasks need to be started, etc. So, I grabbed a blank month view out of an undated Happy Planner™ box kit and got organized.
It may not look like a big deal but this was immensely helpful for me to plan everything out and it made the birthday party planning not feel so overwhelming too. Breaking out a list of 20+ party tasks helps in keeping your cool as you prep. That and wine. Wine always helps. Actually now that I mention it, I probably should have scheduled the wine part into each day as well… Seriously though, this set up made the party prep manageable and helped me to reference each day. There was plenty of room to write and even a little space to decorate.
I still can’t believe I will have a four-year old in a matter of days but glad that I have the party part under control now! This is the first year he is really grasping that it is his birthday and we are going to celebrate him. He talks about the Lego party every time we go in the backyard now. He is precious!
Now I have to go and actually do the rest of my tasks. T minus 6 days!
